Sacred Music Festival Great Success

A special series of Sacred Music events took place on March 23-25.
The events were co-sponsored by the University of Evansville Music
Department, Sacred Music Area and the Evansville and University of
Evansville chapters of the American Guild of Organists.

This series began with a service of Lenten readings, hymns, and
poetry on Sunday, March 23, in the Ursuline Sisters Motherhouse Chapel,
Maple Mount, Kentucky.  Evansville AGO members participating were Neal
Biggers, Dwight Huntley, Douglas O'Neill, Douglas Reed, and Barbara
Waite.  Several University of Evansville students also played hymns.  The
choirs of St. Benedict Cathedral, Evansville; Holy Name Catholic Church,
Henderson; and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Jasper; provided support
for the hymn singing.  The service was very well attended and many of
those in attendance remarked how meaningful they found the service to be.

On Monday, March 24, Dr. Rudy Zuiderveld, organ professor at
Illinois College, performed an exciting concert on the Taylor and Boody
organ in the Usuline Sisters Motherhouse Chapel.  The program included
music with an Italian Connection as well as recent Dutch and American
music.

Despite a chilly, rainy evening, a large crowd heard Dr. Douglas
Reed perform an impressive organ recital in Neu Chapel on Tuesday.  The
program included music by Widor, Sowerby, Bach, Messiaen, and Bolcom.

Helen Reed To Give Concert

Long-time Evansville AGO member, Helen Skuggedal Reed, will give a free
harpsichord concert on Sunday, April 27, at 4:00 p.m. in Wheeler
Concert Hall at the University of Evansville.  The program will include a
wide variety of music written for harpsichord from the 16th century to the
present.  Ms. Reed will give the first public performance of "Suite
Trouveres" which she commissioned last year from distinguished composer
and Evansville native Richard Faith.  For more information, you can
